Conditions of hire

The University Museum of Zoology at Cambridge agrees to the hire of its premises for restricted purposes set out in this policy document provided that these do not impede, restrict, or diminish by association the Museum’s primary purpose to preserve and make accessible the collections in its care.

It is essential that hirers comply with the requirements of the Museum. The hirer will be responsible for maintaining good order in the premises during the period of hire, always working in co-operation with the Museum staff.

No waste material (left-over food, wine etc) should be left by the hirer at the end of an event. There are no facilities for washing up and the hirer’s caterers must remove all dirty glassware and crockery from the Museum. The caterers recommended by the Museum are aware of this obligation. The Museum is responsible for general cleaning after an event, but may make an additional charge for any cleaning considered to be in excess of normal use.

The Museum reserves the right to cancel or cut short any hiring if, in the opinion of the senior member of staff present, the conduct of the guests may threaten the safety of the buildings or exhibits.

The Museum does not accept responsiblity for any property or articles left on the premises by a hirer, or by any person who is on the premises by consent of the hirer. The hirer shall inform any person whom he permits to enter the Museum of these conditions.

Fire Precautions

Smoking is not permitted in any part of the Museum buildings. In the event of a fire, a bell will sound and the Museum Staff will direct guests out of the building by the nearest exit.
