Some of the Museum’s catalogues are now available online in a searchable database.
The Museum aims to make its specimen catalogues as widely available as possible to people worldwide. Since 1998, we have been transcribing our records – many of which were handwritten in the mid-nineteenth century – onto searchable databases which are becoming accessible through the Internet. Catalogues of all the vertebrate collections can already be used, as can much of the spirit-preserved invertebrates. Financial assistance for this project was received from the Designation Challenge Fund and the Pilgrim Trust.
In April 2010 the Museum Libraries and Archives Council, as part of the Designation Development Fund, funded the museum to catalogue its extensive collection of Bivalves. The DDF Bivalve Catalogue is available as a draft and can be used to search for all of the museum’s Bivalves and Type Molluscs (many of which were professionally photographed)
